The Making of Your Piece: How Long a Made-to-Order Ring Takes

Nothing we sell is waiting on a shelf. Your piece is begun when you order it, and finished only when it's right.

That's what makes it yours rather than one of many. It also takes time, and you should know exactly how much before you order.

The short answer

About five to six weeks, from your order to your hand. That's roughly 21 business days of crafting, plus 2–7 business days of complimentary shipping within the U.S.

The full timeline

Stage What happens How long
Order confirmed You'll receive a confirmation email with your order details. Right after you order
Crafting Your piece is cast, set, finished and polished by hand. About 21 business days (Standard) or 18 (Expedited)
Inspection Every stone and setting is checked before it leaves. Included in crafting
Delivery Complimentary, tracked shipping within the U.S.; international carriers are chosen by destination. 2–7 business days in the U.S.

Why does a made-to-order ring take this long?

Because each step is done for your piece alone. The metal is cast in your size, the stone is chosen and set by hand, and the finish is polished until it's right. A ring that ships in two days was made long before anyone ordered it.

How long does a fully custom ring take?

A custom piece adds a design stage before crafting begins:

  1. Share your idea. Send sketches, reference images, a Noirva product link, preferred materials, your budget and your target date.
  2. Consultation and quote. We confirm what's possible and give you a personalised quote. There's no fixed starting price; design fees range from $0 for straightforward requests to $500 for highly detailed bespoke work.
  3. CAD preview. You review a 360° CAD design before anything is made. Three revisions are included.
  4. Crafting. Once you approve the design, most custom pieces take about 21 business days. Complex designs can take longer, and we'll confirm the timeline before you order.

We can also make a custom mounting for a stone you already own. Custom pieces can't be returned, but we're happy to arrange exchanges. For the full process, read Custom Engagement Rings: From First Idea to Final Piece.

Ordering for a date

If your ring is for a proposal, an anniversary or the holidays, count back at least six weeks from the date. For delivery before December 24, we'd suggest ordering by mid-November.

Getting your ring size right the first time

Because your ring is made in your size, it's worth a few minutes.

  • Measure at the end of the day, when your fingers are fullest.
  • Measure the finger you'll actually wear it on. Your dominant hand is often slightly larger.
  • If you're between two sizes, choose the larger for a wide band and the smaller for a fine one.
  • If it's a surprise, borrow a ring they already wear on that finger and trace its inside edge.
